Civil War Flag Bearer staff holder

Heavy brass flag staff holder found on the Nashville, Tennessee battlefield. Measures 3.5 inches tall and weighs about 6 ozs. Contains remnants of the hard wood flag staff. Good chance this came from a Confederate flag that was captured as generally only the flag was kept among the troops or turned in to their commanders for recognition of capturing a flag. From the area it was found to the wood appearing to have been broken off inside the cup, would give some creedence to belonging to a Southern flag, but just as well could have been US. Speculation for the most part but for sure from the past. Heavy patina with quite a bit of wear on the tab/base.
