CSA "Snake buckle" Complete from TN

$595.00     Shipping Cost: $14.95*

CS "snake" buckle from a middle TN Confederate camp. Some years ago I began to study these simple belt buckle devices and discovered, many are not snakes at all, but waterfowl. I have identified Swans, Geese and ducks, which were popular with sportsmen and those who hunted waterfowl for food or money. There was a time during the early to late 1800s that waterfowl was king meat on the eastern coast of America. It wasn't until the railroad began shipping beef that the northeast menu's began to swing over to beef and other livestock. Many times what may appear to be scales are actually feathers. Look at the head, that is the first give away. To be sure, there are plenty of true snake hooks, but close examination might reveal a duck! All relics listed for sale are from a single collection and guaranteed 100% authentic. 90 lay-a-way available with approval. Price: $595 + shipping and insurance.  Shipping is posted but insurance at buyers discretion.
