Civil War Copper mess plate Confederate or Union

When I pulled this mess plate out of the dirt, I thought this was a real find. Any tin items usually were rusted beyond salvage, but this one had enough of the original shape to ID it. Little did I know it was copper, not tinned iron. I brought it home and gently washed it before placing it in a box where it has remained since the day I recovered it in the Nashville dig. Diameter is nine inches but we can only guess who it belonged to; Billy Yank or Johnny Reb. No telling how much of the war this plate traveled in. Time wasn't kind to this relic of the past.
