The Nexus Coronado could be one of the lightest treasure hunting metal detectors in the world. The weight of Coronado including the 10 AA battery pack and the standard size dual 6" search coil is only 2.85 pounds and it is also a very well balanced design. It is feature proof as well. The Nexus Coronado offers all of the most important modern metal detecting features. The most important of all features included in the Nexus Coronado is the superior depth penetration and discrimination capabilities to all other competitive metal detectors. Regardless the fact that Nexus Coronado is 20% less sensitive than Nexus Standard SE, it is still designed to cover the MINIMUM requirements for depth penetration and discrimination accuracy laid down by the first Nexus metal detectors. The Nexus Coronado is an incredibly stable and easy to use metal detector. Also very comfortable to transport due to the new telescopic Fiberglass stem with similar construction similar to a fishing rod. No locking colors, no screws or nuts, only straight tubes as you can see on the picture above. The bottom part of the stem is available in any custom size. The stem length of Coronado is not adjustable, but any customer can have their own stem with a custom cut length. The Nexus Coronado is supplied with the dual 6" Coronado Silver search coil (over all size 10" x 6") as a standard type, but by customer preference, Nexus Coronado can be supplied with any one of the following accessory search coils; Coronado Gold dual 6" search coil tuned at 18 kHz +/- 0.5 Coronado Silver dual search coil tuned at 8.5 kHz +/- 0.5 Coronado Hoard dual 6" search coil tuned at 5.1 kHz +/- 0.5 Nexus Gold dual 4" search coil tuned at 7.3 kHz +/- 0.5. Why this strange look for the coils? Is there anything new in the Nexus coils?

The # 8 shape chosen for the Nexus coil design is not a marketing trick or just some eccentric idea. It is firmly based on the laws of physics. The idea is simply this;
It is well known that the best QF (quality factor) of a single loop (coil) regardless the number of turns is the circular shape. Any shape other than circular will result in less efficiency in comparison. Therefore when two loops necessary for the induction balance are overlapped, that will result in # 8 shape appearance.
To this factor, maximum (coming from the shape) efficiency is added to full resonance between the TX and RX coils. Normally the TX and the RX are as close as 99% to the full electromagnetic resonance. I believe the Nexus is the only detector on the market with this level of resonance tuning.
And so, the most efficient shape combined with the resonance tuning would definitely result in the most sensitive and powerful search coil assembly, which is the reason for the unusual appearance of the Nexus coils.
Apart from these facts, the shape of the Nexus coils was invented by others before me a very long time ago. The invention in the Nexus coils is not about shape but about technology of parts, assembly and tuning procedures.
Something about the stem design
The stem of the Nexus was designed by me in the way it looks for practical reasons. In this shape it provides even distribution of the weight over the hand and makes the detector lighter in swing weight and balance.
Some people are not that happy for the fact that the material used for building the stem is wood, but there are good reasons for that;
- First, of all the Nexus coils are excessively sensitive and that fact alone would exclude any chance of using metal stems. Use of metal stems with the Nexus will result in lower performance.
- The other reason against artificial materials such as carbon fiber, glass fibers, plastics etc., is that they would boost the selling price of the Nexus detector well above the current price (extra production costs).
- Well treated with proper chemicals, wood is as durable as any other material used for stems, providing that the users are not trying to dig holes with it or move their cars out of mud puddles.
- All mounting holes in the stem construction are treated with cyanoacrilate, very low viscosity glue and under normal conditions will not break.
To all customers:
Please note that Nexus detectors are not a new fashion, or entertainment toys. They require understanding metal detecting and experienced hands. And, in some cases concerning beginners, a long learning curve.
If you do not have sufficient experience with older type analog detectors, please give yourself time to learn about the Nexus or other wise do not buy it. The Nexus is for serious, dedicated Detectorists!
Nexus detectors are beyond any question the most powerful deep seekers with the most accurate discrimination, but they are not turn on and go metal detectors.
